IGOR OUTKINE studied classical accordion at Elektrostal Music College and traditional singing at Gnesin Institute in Moscow. He performed extensively with top folk groups and with the Rozovsky Theatre of Moscow. He came to London in 1990 with the gypsy band Loyko and continues to perform the music of his homeland.
In 1996 he met violinist Sarah Harrison and together they formed Mazaika Duo, which became his main priority in music-making. Their performance at Edinburgh Festival last year was given the top rating - five stars - by The Three Weeks Review.
Igor has recently joined the Antonio Forcione Quartet and appeared with them at Edinburgh Festival and at WOMAD last summer [2004]. He also appeared recently at Almeida Theatre in London with Soft Sell’s lead singer Marc Almond (live DVD is out from January 2005). Igor has toured the U.S twice with his duo Mazaika and another tour is planned for July 2005. They also give concerts and play at festivals throughout Britain and Europe. His band, Mazaika Plus, has given several very successful concerts at the Purcell Room on London’s South Bank.
